IKEA FREKVENS x TEENAGE ENGINEERING
A portable sound object from FREKVENS, the limited 2020 collaboration between IKEA and Stockholm-based creative studio teenage engineering. Designed as part speaker, part modular object, the FREKVENS system was created to bring music outside the usual home audio setup. Its graphic black and yellow construction, exposed controls, perforated grille, and stackable form make it feel closer to a piece of industrial equipment than a traditional Bluetooth speaker. Connect your phone, computer, or other Bluetooth enabled device and use it at home or take the sound with you using the included battery packs. This set includes the original power cable and two IKEA BRAUNIT battery packs, making the speaker ready for both plugged in and portable use. A functional piece of sound culture from one of IKEA’s most experimental and collectible design collaborations. BUNDLE INCLUDES IKEA FREKVENS Bluetooth speaker in black and yellow Two IKEA BRAUNIT battery packs Original power cable
Why We Chose This
FREKVENS was designed around a simple idea: sound should not have to be hidden. Instead of disguising the speaker as furniture, IKEA and teenage engineering turned it into a visible, modular object, something meant to be carried, stacked, displayed, and used wherever people gather. The result sits somewhere between home audio, industrial design, and portable party equipment. A speaker that works as technology, furniture, and cultural artifact at the same time.
